problem with backups

I had heart failure today in class when I went to access my schedule and take the class role and they we'ren't there!

I'm not sure how it happened, but iDoceo had been put into Compact mode and my schedule did not appear. My classes were listed but when I selected them they were reported as empty.

I put iDoceo into FULL mode and could then see my schedule again but still the classes appeared as empty. I was certain that my students were still in the system somewhere, as I could see that resources were still linked to students, indicating that perhaps they were still there.

In the end I tried editing a class without changing anything, and when I closed the edit window, all the classes miraculously reappeared as if nothing was wrong.

It reinforced to me that I should backup my system more often, since I am so dependant on it at work, however the backup system is not very reliable for me, frequently failing to complete a full backup. I'm not sure how to resolve this situation.

Again, not sure why this happened but hope that my explanation of the situation might just help someone else out.
Cheers,
Mike

Thanks for the heads up Mike,
Restarting the iPad is usually easier and better solution. The switch to compact
mode is a known bug in iOS8/9 that Apple may solve in iOS10 but not sure about that.

Regarding the reliability of backups, they are completely reliable. If you see the backup completed
message, your backup is safe and you won't lose any data. Failing to complete is a different issue. Which backup system are you working with? Give iCloud a try, it is faster and does not depend on internet connectivity or tiird party providersIf this ever happens again drop us a line

Thanks for the prompt response Bert.

I am currently using Dropbox to backup iDoceo but find that it frequently does not complete. It reports that it needs to relink with Dropbox. I complete the relink and then the same thing happens all over again.

I just tried iCloud as an alternative and it seemed to complete first time. I am not a regular iCloud user, however I might need to be to keep my data safe!

Dropbox is conducting some 'agressive' and undesirable changes on their side and we will soon be promoting Google Drive, One Drive and actually any other system as an altermative for backups unless they come back to their senses!

We'll keep everyone posted about this in the following months
