Importing from XLS or CSV - Personal Data problems

Hello,

Any help or guidance people can suggest would be great!

I have tried a gazillion times and followed the import instructions from this site to import a student list file containing First, Last name and Parent Emails. I have tried exporting the list as a Numbers file, Excel file and CSV. I have named the Parent email column "@Parentemail" and even tried "!Parentemail".

My problem is that when I import the list, it automatically puts the parent email address in the name field in the Gradebook. I would like the parent email to go where it should be - in the personal data section.

Any one else having these difficulties?

It doesn't allow me to deselect that field for Gradebook entries upon import.

Help!

Thanks,
Eric

Hello Eric,
You only have to select the import wizard and follow the steps shown on screen. There is no need to edit the CSV file

If still can't sort it out do let me know

Hello Bert,

Thanks for your reply.

I have tried everything. Originally, yes, I tried to import without editing the CSV file. But, it would not work. Then, I read in the guides on this website that the personal data should be identified with a "@" or "!" in front. I tried both of those. I tried importing Excel files, CSV or Numbers files and the import wizard will not import the Parent Emails as personal data. It just lumps it all together with the names.

Any help would be appreciated. It's a great app!

After some more tweaking, I realized that my CSV file had "<" and ">" brackets around the emails and therefore it wasn't importing properly. This file was generated by my district's marks software (which I do not like at all!).

I think I have it all working like I need to right now.

Thanks again,
Eric

P.S. As per usual, it came down to user error. :)
