How do people deal with students moving class

I have had quite a few students up move up and down in setting classes this week and it's causing me a real head ache. I have tried to keep every class pretty much the same in its column layout, but the data doesn't copy across.

How do people deal with this? Do I have to do it all manually?

I think you posted this in another thread, but just in case I'll reply here as well.

The columns have no relation between classes and copying/transferring students won't move their data. The 'pretty much the same layout' doesn't work in software!
We'll have to add some semi-automatic method to select the relation between columns&classes.
