Concerns about data protection was created by KLN
HI all, I am hoping that the development team will be able to help me. I am Assistant head at a large comprehensive school and we are about to go 1:1 with iPads. Lots of our teachers have already started using Idoceo and think it is brilliant, however I have serious data protection concerns. My current understanding is that any personal student data (SEN data etc) cannot be stored in Dropbox as it is hosted outside the EU. However your APP only backs up to Dropbox. It would be perfect if it was possible to back to teh teachers personal iCloud account instead. Can you help with this? Thanks Katie

Hi Katie,
We received some comments and concerns about Dropbox already. We're moving iDoceo's backup solution into iCloud in our next update (keeping Dropbox as an alternative method).
I'm not sure if iCloud will solve your data protection concerns either, you probably have more info about that than I do! .
For EU data protection laws, we had in mind some of Dropbox's compliances , specially EU's Safe Harbor. Here is the link and explanation from Dropbox's web
We're working on that update already!
Thanks for contacting us, if you need more info or details, please let us know.

Katie,
I forgot to mention the old fashioned 'backup with iTunes' alternative. That will hold all the app's data as well (locally) but may of course prove less practical than online storage.

Another here with similar/same concerns re: policy/data protection. Would like to ask which version people are dicussing in this now older thread, does the current version at 2.5 already address some or all of these issues? or approx time scale (ver) for such as encrypted based cloud storage.

thx

Hi Rob,
This post was referring to version 2.0 . Since that version , we added as backup alternatives iCloud and WebDAV servers .
iCloud was included to meet some additional privacy&data protection specs and WebDAV to offer a backup alternative that did not necessarily rely on cloud storage . Some schools have local server(s) offering WebDAV storage to their staff
As usual, there is always an update in the works , in this case our next version will be 3.0 which will include Google Drive support both for backups and to add resources from.
If you need more info or details, let me know

We added Webdav.. keeping data 'in-house'. We also have he Webdavnav+ app so that staff can access their Home/Lesson & Admin drives via the Ipad.
