iDoceo for windows? was created by Louise.Isobel
Hi,

I love the iDoceo app and rave about this app any chance I get - and have converted many teachers over to using the app. However, our school is looking to start moving over to surface pro's and I am currently road testing to anaylse educational usage. I saw a post from November 2014 in regards to other platforms - is there any update on this info? Will you be looking to expand the app to other platforms? I cannot find anything comparable!

Thanks,
Louise

Hello Louise,
I'm afraid nothing has changed on the Windows app store. It is too small for apps like iDoceo and we would not be able to make ends meet

Hi bert,

I think iDoceo is fantastic and has been incredibly useful to me over the last almost 2 years that I've been using it.

However, I'd really love to see a Windows version of it too.

I've no idea about the costs, margins etc. but one thought strikes me - every teacher I know that I can think of has a Windows laptop, often provided by the school. In contrast, only a small proportion of teachers I know have an iPad. Surely there is a substantial potential market for a Windows version of iDoceo?

I know people who I've shown have thought the app is great and the first question is usually "can I get that on my laptop?" There are people who would love to use this, but aren't going to buy an iPad just to get it.

Also, schools spend huge sums of money on paper planners every year, often more than the £8.99 app store fee, yet if there was a Windows version available, especially for schools who provide staff with laptops, they could just as equally spend the money on that instead.

Is there no merit to creating a Windows version?

Hi mtoreilly,

It is an interesting project but the required investment - both in time and money - makes it impossible for us at the moment. We would need to raise some capital/investors/angels/VC, etc. first.

On the more technical side, the Windows App Store is terrible, the adoption numbers of Windows 10 are awful and we've been bugged with piracy issues on every software we've developed for Windows in the past.

We do keep it seriously in mind though. Apple's recent developments are making Microsoft look better and better.

Thanks for the reply, bert.

I appreciate the difficulties involved, and given the issues you say you've had I can understand the reluctance!

It's interesting you say that about Apple's developments. I've recently purchased a Surface Pro 4, despite having previously been pretty set on getting a MacBook Pro when it was time to replace my Windows laptop. Given I've been using iPhone and iPad for a number of years now it seemed to make sense to make the switch, but I've been less than impressed with their recent direction, not least the £750 price increase on the cheapest MacBook! And nothing about the overpriced iPad Pro makes me want to upgrade my Air 2, and I feel pretty happy to stick with my 6S too. But I digress...

Well, I'll live in hope that something changes for you at some point in the (near) future making it feasible and worthwhile for you to develop a Windows app.

Cheers! :)
