Text based Lookup was created by Brett Huckstep
Hi,
Long term and avid/rabid user of idoceo. I've just come across something I thought I knew how to do...but apparently not!
Is there a way to convert a text/number input to a text field?
E.g I enter the name of a form group 12.6 in column 1: Form(E.g grade selector) and have column 2: Tutor perform a lookup and return a text field.
So..
Col 1 Form = 12.6
Col 2 Tutor = Mr Huckstep (Returned field)
I've tried various types of text and numeric based calculations but to no avail.
I'm probably overlooking something simple here...
Many thanks,
Brett

If the input value can either be number or text you have to handle it as a text grade, if they are numbers you will only have to define the returned fields and create a conversion note.
Let me know the possible values of 'form group' and I'll explain how to configure it.

Thanks for this - appreciate the super quick reply.
The possible form group 'names' are (e.g year 13) 13.1 to 13.14
These could be treated as a text label.
Thanks,
Brett

The first step, create a text grade type with the 'form group' texts and assign a numeric value.
In my example, 13.1 equals 1301 , 13.2 equals 1302 and 13.12 equals 1312 an easy conversion to remember.
Here is the image
This grade type has to be assigned to your 'Form group' column, the one with the grade selector editor
The next step, create a text grade type with the tutors names. In value, assign the same value as in the previous text grade.
Here is the image
The final step: In the gradebook > Add column > Calculation > Average > Select your 'form group' column (100%) The grade type for this 'calculation' is 'Tutors'
And it would look like this.

Ah! You're the boss Bert!
I tried this any number of ways but I was using decimal points in the value column of the text grade - I didn't think just to enter it as e.g 13.1 = 1301. That's actually opened another level of lookups for me - THANK YOU!
As ever - really appreciate your work on this app. I've converted quite a few people over to iDoceo at our school. I'll continue to spread the word...
Cheers,
Brett
