Excusing students from assignments

My classroom is a revolving door and sometimes students will need to be excused from assignments. Is there a way to excuse them so that the assignment will not be included in their average?

You must enable the 'Skip empty cells' option in the Average calculation
and either :
leave the cell empty
or enable an empty cell icon (main screen > settings > empty cell icon) so that you can keep track of excused students
