Seating Chart Backgrounds

I'd like to create a seating chart template to use as a background So I can add my student on top of it and see where I have empty seats. How would i add that? Does it need to be a specific resolution or size? Anything I put in comes out huge doesn't adjust with the zoom.

I have done that but the background is still WAY too big. How large should the square be for it match the size of the student?

The image will always fill the background, its size does not matter, just its ratio
There are many modes to show those students in the seating plan and can't say which mode you are working with or what you'd like to see. A small trial and error should do

Any size will do. It just needs to be a square image.
