Hi - I am still struggling slightly with the calculations engine, but so far every time there has been a way to do it! I am wanting to turn a mark out of 60 into a text grade. The grades are determined by the number of marks achieved in blocks: 0-17(G), 18-23(F), 24-29(E), 30-35(D), 36-41(C), 42-47( , 48-53(A) and 54-60 (A*). What's confusing me is that these grading boundaries don't utilise percentages, so I'm not sure how to express the text grade in percentage terms so that the calculation can be done. Do I have to do a bit of maths on this somehow? Or is there a way built in?

			Hi Smiffy
Yes, the grading boundaries utilise percentages because they will work for any kind of mark you're trying to convert it from (i.e. out of 50, 40, etc.)
iDoceo can do the math for you to then be able to create that text grade.
Hope this doesn't add more confusion to your question. Just wanted to show you what I've done to obtain the values you need. You may want to skip this and go straight to the next post where I'll post the final values for your text grade.
In this image below, I've just added a column with a mark out of 60, and in the column next to it a simple calculation which takes into account the 100% of this column and represents it as a percentage (Grade type From 0 to 100)

Fantastic Bert thank you so much! I have succeeded in getting it working, and have even managed to use the calculations addition option to double the marks up for 2 modules (so total marks out of 120) then calculate an overall grade using the same system.
One thing slightly bugs me - my calculation columns have their data in bold text whereas the initial columns don't - how do I turn bold off for the column data?

There's no option to turn the bold off yet...

OK thanks for now, de-bolding calculation data is something I'd like to see if it's possible for a new version. Thanks again.

			Hi,
Long time reader, first time caller! I'm trying to do exactly what this thread discusses and I can't get it to work. Would someone be able to show me or tell me how I need to configure the two columns so I can get from my raw score to a grade.
I think I need very basic instructions as no matter what I try it doesn't work.
Thank you in advance!!

Based on all of the data already used in this topic:
Step 1 - Set up an A* - G text grade as per Bert's picture where A* is worth 90%, A is worth 80% etc.
Step 2 - Have a column in your grade book which has a number based "Grade Type" and shows numbers between 0 and 60 (as in marks out of 60)
Step 3 - Add a new column, select "Calculation" in the "Editor". For "Grade Type" in this column, use your text grade that you set up in step 1.
Step 4 - Set up your calculation. Include your 0-60 column in the calculation (from step 2) and make this worth 100%.
Done! You should now be able to get a text grade equivalent for numbers 0 - 60.
Hope that helps.
