Exporting Grades

Hello,

I just discovered adduce in the past 7-10 days. I downloaded and I really love it. There are many great things about it.

My school district gives us another OLD and POORLY designed application for our grade books. I despise it, can you tell?

I have been doing workarounds (only utilizing the application when I absolutely need to).

I would like to test out iDoceo this semester but there is a small issue that could make it harder for me.

When in the grade book, I can export as a XLS or CSV. That is great! My other application will accept CSV files for importing mass grades like that. However, I wish that I could export the student names in separate columns (First name - column 1), Last name - column 2, ID# column 3 followed by the columns I wish to include.

Is there a way to do this without adding too many steps? I would love to be able to generate the type of CSV file I need right from iDoceo, save it in Dropbox and import into my other application. Having the choice of being more granular in the export like that would be a welcome change.

Right now, I think the export would require too many workarounds for me and therefore take too much time.

How often would you have to export your data to this other software?

In case you'd like to give it a try, here are my suggestions to create that CSV file.
I understand it will only be useful if you do not have to do it very often.

The best way to create the file is by using the XLS export.
XLS has some additional options that will let you select which columns to export and you will avoid some steps. Additionally, you will be able to review the file in Numbers/Excel pretty easily and erase any columns that you do not need (like the students names)

In order to solve the first name, last name and ID issues you should import them as regular columns in your grade book. This will let you select them when you export to XLS.
You can easily copy these two or three columns to the rest of tabs in a class (grade book view, tap on tools > Colums > Select the three columns > Copy)

Once you export to XLS, open it in Excel or Numbers, remove the first column with the students names. Export to CSV and save/send this file for the final step where you will import it in the software you mention.

You present a good idea - import the data as columns. So, I took my CSV file from the other application, imported it and got it to create column headings from my data using the Import Wizard. However, the columns are empty then.

Any help there?

I am trying really hard to make this work... it is really a comprehensive app and would love to have it part of my workflow.

Really impressive customer support!

I tried something else. I took my CSV file and instead of using the Wizard, I went to dropbox... "open in iDoceo". I selected Create new Class.

This gave me the name in the Name column and created a column for the student number as the first column and populated it with their numbers. I guess that is all I need.

Hello! I also import grades from iDoceo on a weekly or biweekly basis. I love this option! I am forced to use csv as well, and would like to know if there is anyway to include the assignment date in the csv values. It currently does not include the date unless I manually put it into the column header, however since I do daily grades I have a favorites set up to automatically set the date to "today".

I included an example of my csv file. You can see that for the earlier assignments I manually put the date number (11/13=13) so I can see which column I am supposed to be importing, and the later assignments have no header because the date does not show up and I have not yet manually put the numbers in.
