Linked Columns not an option

I hope I'm not missing something obvious...

I'm trying to create a linked column but when I follow the instructions I'm not getting a "linked copy" tab. just the regular options of copying it to one of my tabs

what am I missing chaps?

The linked copy option will only appear if you're copying columns between tabs of the same class. My guess ... maybe you're copying/sending that column to a different class?

Hi - what I already have is a set of grades and a calculation column that works out their average grade at the end.

What I'm trying to do is to place a (linked) copy of that average column at the start of the grades as well and for that to update as the original changes

Just tried to copy it to another tab and it worked

So I'm guessing it won't work if your copying the column within the same tab?

Yes that's it, columns can't be linked within the same tab, I missed that one.

For our next major update 3.5 - which will take some time- we have plans to add an option which will make a column always visible, similar to locking a column in Excel.

Those locked columns will probably be shown next to the student names

Locked columns sounds like a cool addition

As for my dilemma I'll link copy each project average into a new tab called final grades - jobs a good un!
