I am reviewing my setup before the next round of classes.

My period summary showed 18 absences, but only 7 pupils were away. Is that counting sessions?

I usually deal with this between lessons, when there is not much time to experiment.

It counts recorded attendance marks across sessions, which can include the same student more than once. The refreshed summary states the included sessions and marks more clearly.
