How can I import prefixes(?) from last names? was created by DennisGoedbloed
Hi,

Four teachers are importing 900 students from an huge excel list. This has everything we need, including schoolID numbers, e-mails, etc.
What we can't figure out is how to import the little prefixes of their last names.

For example, a student's full name could be Louis van Gaal.
In iDoceo's import we can select the column with all the first names (for this student Louis) and all the last names (for this student Gaal) but we can't select a column with the prefixes?

Any directions of how to accomplish this?

Any help would be kindly appreciated!
Kind regards,
Dennis Goedbloed

Hello Dennis,
You have to create the 'prefix' field (or any other you need) first in iDoceo and then you will be able to import it with the import Wizard.
The details are explained here

Dennis, if the custom field solution does not work for you, you could try merging those two columns (prefix with surname) before importing.
We will try to add a more streamlined solution that includes the Prefix in iDoceo's default system fields.

Thanks for your quick replies, Bert!

Greatly appreciated. I will try the first solution first:
Unfortunately we have to transfer grades to another system (by hand). To do this as quickly as possible it is important the order of last names remains the same (not sure if merging prefixes and last names will do the same).

Going to try it out now!

If this other system accepts any kind of file format do let me know and we can prepare a specific export feature for that.

Adding a field works nicely but I can't arrange it between the First and Last name fields. Thus it doesn't show up in the class lists  . So this doesn't solve the issue for us, unfortunately.
Hopefully a streamlined solution will be added in iDoceo in the near future, I'm sure there are many students (internationally) that have prefixes in their names so I reckon it will be met with great joy.

For the export feature: that would be great! I will contact the specialist regarding this question. Will get back on that soon!

Thanks again for your quick replies btw, greatly appreciated.

Hello Bert,

I spoke to my system administrator a couple of times, he says it is surely possible. He would like to get in touch with you to discuss the technical details of how to export grades from iDoceo to Magister (a widely used student management system here in the Netherlands) the most effective way.

Is there a way he can get your contact details (e-mail for example)?

Kind regards,
Dennis

Sure Dennis, an e-mail to support @ idoceo.net will do. I'm available there.
