Append only to existing students was created by DiscoStu
Hello,
I currently have a large csv file containing all of last years data for my year 8 students in multiple columns from leadership. Unfortunately the file isn't sorted into classes. Is there a way I can append the data to my classes and have idoceo only append to students that already exist in a class?
So far every time I try it, it adds every student in year 8 to the class.

Hello DiscoStu,
We will add a small question before 'Appending' that will ask if you'd like to add the missing to students or append data only to those that are already present

Sure, I'm working on it right now
Let me see if I can squeeze a Beta version for you to work on it before the official release

Fantastic! Happy to beta test. Let me know what I need to do. The last time I beta tested idoceo was for version 4 but I've test flight installed. Thanks so much.

You should have Testflight's invitation in your inbox, just update from Testflight as usual

Hi Bert,
Thanks for the invite. I'm testing now. It works great, thanks.
I was initially trying to append by copying the file from my onedrive account and it resulted in all students being imported. However when I import from within the classes page on iDoceo I get the option "Do you wish to add the missing students to your gradebook?". I select no and only the data I need is added.
This is huge time saver for me so your hard work is much appreciated.

Hi Bert.
Upon closer inspection something strange is happening when I import the data it’s changing some students surnames (but not all) and then imports the wrong students data into the gradebook.
For example I have a student who’s surname changes from Mann to Taylor. The forenames all stay the same however. The data that is then imported matches the student with the surname Taylor. The spreadsheet I’m importing (csv) has the surnames under ‘surname’ and names under ‘forename’ on the adjacent column. I thought that it might be because the students have the same forename but a number of students have no similarity at all. Strange!
Any suggestions?

If you made sure that name and lastname are selected (in the name tab) when appending data send me a couple of screenshots if you have a chance to support @ idoceo.net
A sample fake file with the same columns you're importing would also be great
