Ignore icon values in calculations? was created by chrisrowe
hi
Ive been trying to set up a grade book where I can use icons to track and count behaviour points accrued in lessons.
Its different points for escalating offences, so I've worked out how to assign values to icons and a calculation column to add them up (as every 5 points is a detention)
the snag I've hit is that I'm also adding up the columns for their classwork, my additions are including the behaviour icon values too (as I'm placing the behaviour icons in the columns for the classwork/lesson
so a pupil with a 5 for the classwork and a C1 (1 behaviour point) is getting a total classwork score of 6
can you ignore icon values when calculating columns additions?
cheers

Hello Chris,
I'm afraid it is not possible (i.e. easily feasible) if both text and icons are on the same cell. They are meant to be in different columns if you do not want their values added.
The long winded way:
Add a column > calculation > Icon counter > Select your icons and 'Count icons' value to take them all into account
Add a column > Calculation > Formula > If you wrap your columns around the RAW function they won't take the icon values into account. Something like RAW(COLUMN1) + RAW(COLUMN2)
