Compare grades to target was created by Dkookster
Hi
I have downloaded the app and am playing around with it before investing time setting up for my classes. Currently I use excel for my current class marks and I am really good at using formulae to do most analysis and don't want to make a switch if I can't analyse marks.
Is there a compare to function? Ie. my student has a target of an A and gets a B so I want to be able to see she is a grade below target and link this to the cell colour.
Thanks

Welcome Dkookster,
We precisely try to avoid Excel formulae to allow non-spreadsheet-savvy users to manage iDoceo's gradebook. You may find some limitations in that aspect. Our next major update , 3.0 will add improved calculations and conditions as per our users suggestion. If you're comfortable with Excel spreadsheets I'd recommend you to stay with it at least until the update is available.
However, what you need can be configured already, here the steps.
In the first example , the cell's color is assigned automatically depending on its mark. The column has a grade type we've created for this purpose, named A to F with colours.
Here the images :
The next example, if your target mark isn't the same for all students ,which I understand is the case here, requires to add two new columns. A column we'll name 'target' and a balance column which will compare both the target minus the obtained mark.
The result will be shown as a percent (grade from 0 to 100 with colours), but you can apply any other grade.
This first image shows the configuration of the calculation column Here the configutation of our 'From 0 to 100' grade , with colours . Basically a value less than 0 is painted red , and greater than 0 is green.
And here the final result

On the other hand, you can still use iDoceo to track all your student's progress and marks, and export to Excel at any time to complement the calculations. Exporting to Excel is just two clicks away.

Hi Bert
Thanks for the speedy reponse. What you are suggesting isn't quite what I am after as I want the compare column to say eg 0 if on target, -1 if one grade below, 1 if a grade above etc. Mostly using your methodology I can do this if I ignore %, ie. I have set up a grade scheme that equates an A* to 8(%), A to 7 (%), B to 6 (%) and so on. So my compare column now has the number of grades difference. A student with a target of an A* and got an A* in a test now has a 0 in the compare column. If this is the best work around it is a bit clunky but works as far as I can see BUT I can't really see how can I then get the cell with a 0 to be green ie. on target. 0 seems to default to red in the grade schemes.
Many thanks

Hi Dkookster,
You should be able to assign any color to any value, would you mind attaching a screenshot of your calculation, when arrows are on screen?
If your final result is shown in numeric form , the color configuration must have three items, the first when the value is less than 0 , a second when the value is 0 , and a third when is greater than 0.
